Asus cheaped out with a thin heatsink, easily blocked shroud and the worlds cheapest thermal pad that dries out in under 2 years. Even mediocre thermal paste should outperform high-end pads or gap fillers, unless there are stand-offs or spacers artificially increasing the size of the gap that must be filled.
