I know there are other fixes out there for the 240-280z headlight switch contact problem but this is certainly the easiest and uses no additional parts. My switch was so bad that it generated enough heat to desolder the wire from the switch itself. Not fun at dusk when you lose all exterior ... http://xenonzcar.com/z31/Headlamps.html

Id assume if the previous headlight worked, then the wiring is backwards and if its anything like a 280zx id assume you could pull pins and try a few different combos in the connector until the high and low beam work correctly.
