In the last week Harley has sent out a "improved" crank sensor that does not have the issues of the original. Therefore if you replace it once you shouldn't have to do it again and again. Bike runs great now.

WebMar 30, 2011 · On your Softail the CKP connector is located under the regulator mount . Cut the tie strap and unhook the connector from the bracket then unplug it . There's two pins in the connector on the sensor end of the wire , use an ohmeter to test for resistance across those two pins . The spec is 1000 ohms .

Pull out sensor. Look at sensor. Wonder why sensor failed. Make sure O-Ring is on new sensor. Lube with a tiny bit of oil, on O-ring. Install and torque to spec. Plug back into harness.
